Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (or BJJ for short) is a self defense martial art that originated in Japan and evolved from judo when the art was being spread across the world in the early 1900’s. This was then adopted and adapted by the now famous Gracie brothers in 1925 into what we recognise today as BJJ.
Having learned under Wales’ first ever BJJ black belt, Chris Rees, our very own black belt Tom Barry has competed across the world in some of the most prestigious events and as won Gold at the 2022 No Gi Open Championship.
With it’s core based on self defense, BJJ will teach you how to take control of situations were you may come to harm by showing you techniques to get your opponent to the ground and keeping them there. By learning the correct techniques you will see that size and strength advantages are minimised when on the ground and through control you will also learn submissions such as choke holds, arm and leg bars and a whole array of different moves that are ever evolving in the growing sport of Jiu Jitsu.
